Well after that rousing response from Mr. Gallen, I feel I must retort. LoL. They eyebrows debate is one that has been ragging on for what seems like the forever. Opinions vary from person to person and obviously, Mr. Gallen is very much comfortable with himself and I for one applaud him for his self-confidence. I agree with him that the majority of us could probably not be as comfortable as his has become with himself.

However, with that being said, he does not live in everyday “normal” reality, which is where the rest of us reside. Usually in entertainment, there is a whole other reality and social circles that pride themselves on personal appearance and place emphasis on it as it can either make or break a career. More often-in homosexual pornographic entertainment, heterosexual masculinity is popular as detailed in such examples from websites like “Fratpad”, “Sean Cody”, and many other “straight” gay male themed sites.

Meanwhile back in “normal” everyday reality, males do not “manscape” their eyebrows in such a manner and the argument that most people have is that thinned out or overly trimmed eyebrows are usually associated with females and is the complete opposite of the definition of masculinity. I’m not condoning society’s prejudice on the issue, just stating a fact. One would hope that the idea of “live and let live” would be more prevalent in our society and I do believe that the majority of people who complain about male feminine themed grooming are from an older generation were for example actors like Clark Gable and Cary Grant were the epitome of masculinity and the fact that Mr. Gallen doesn’t fit into that idea of what a man should, according to those examples, look like literally for lack of a better word, “freaks” them out. LoL.

I personally respect Mr. Gallen’s grooming choices because at the end of the day, he is the one who has to live with his personal appearance and if he is comfortable in his own skin then who am I or we to judge him for it. We do not have to look at his pictures nor should we belittle him because he does not appear to be masculine to some of us. The idea of masculinity, just like beauty, varies from person to person.

I urge all of us to get over it and move on to issues of more importantance.

Mr. Gallen sounds adamant that he will not be changing his personal appearance because of a few or many naggers and nor should he. Again, if you don’t like it, don’t view his pictures and please keep your derogatory comments to one’s self. There is enough hatred in the world against homosexuals and this “gay on gay” bashing over what is “feminine” or “masculine” is no longer needed.

We will never grow as a community if we continue along this self-destructive path.
