Jack Wrangler is not the template here, not by a long shot. If you had seen his documentary, Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon, you would have heard him explain that when he was doing porn, in those days, the pre-AIDS 70s, he could go back and forth between gay and straight porn, that there was pretty much no stigma to doing gay porn. (And he topped and bottomed and gay porn, but more frequently bottomed.)

He then met and married big-band singer Margaret Whiting, and as you say, he did some theatrical producing. He was never, except for that doc, in the public eye as any kind of performer or model again. Essentially, he married well.

And why would Simon/Harley strive to get into straight porn? The reason Jeff Stryker didn’t do any more than he did, as he explained in HBO’s Down in the Valley series, was b/c straight porn guys don’t make any money, certainly not the kind of $ gay guys used to make. He said they offered him $500 a scene, and he said, “I don’t take off my shoes for $500.”

That was 30 years ago when Matt crossed over and became Peter (actually did some gay and straight porn at the same time, as did others, like Jack Wrangler). It was b4 AIDS, and the porn industry was more accepting of it.

A better reference is probably Maxx Diesel, who became “straight” porn performer Christian. He was able to cross over, but he wrote on his blog ChristianSingsTheBlues frequently about people who wouldn’t hire him or women who wouldn’t work with him, or just how the “peanut gallery” harassed him all the time b/c he’d done gay porn. Simon isn’t going to have a straight porn career, and as badly as he and guys like Blake Harper want it, he’s not going to have any kind of mainstream success either with all these pictures and videos of him with his tongue up some guy’s ass.

I will truly miss “Harley.” The fact that he never gave BJs never bothered me. He did everything else, and did it well. Harley is not the typical overly muscular, or twink, metrosexual pretty boy types, who don’t perfrom, as much as hope that the ordeal will soon be over, so they can get their money and amscray. Harley’s BTS videos show him to be playful and have a sense of humor. It’s true that it would be difficult for him to have a lucrative career in non-porn legitimate professional modeling, even though he photgraphs VERY WELL (I have seen professional portfolio modeling pictures of him at many sites). The stigma of gay porn will not allow for him to be successful in that profession. As for str8 porn, it pays MUCH LESS for males than gay porn, and nowhere near what one of those $10,000+ a weekend escorts, whose regular cusomers fly them anywhere, and give them expensive gifts (cars, jewelry, etc.) earn. He should save his money during his next few good years, and become financially independent.

I know Sean Cody claims responsibility, but consider the possibility that Harley LIKES getting fucked and WANTED to get fucked. Anyway, it’s not going to be happening again anytime soon if he’s only doing straight porn and doesn’t do gay unless it’s on camera and he’s getting paid. Re Harley’s aspirations, Jack Wrangler comes to mind. I’ve never seen any of his videos, and only know him from his recent obituary in the New York Times (he died this year from emphysema at age 62) and a Wikipedia entry. Gay. Very Hot. From a show biz family, graduates from Northwestern, models and acts before deciding he wants to be a gay porn star. Achieves that goal, then moves into straight porn (“straight for pay”). At 40 he marries a singing star of the 40’s and 50’s, Margaret Whiting, gives up porn at her insistence, and becomes a successful and respected theatrical producer, remaining always “Jack Wrangler” and happy to have the porn career that made the name famous. Don’t know whether he was a top or bottom or both. Don’t know whether the movies are good or bad. Don’t know whether or not this has any relevance for Harley. But an interesting life: gay porn to an obituary in the NYT. Not bad. I like it.

All these so-called “straight” or “gay-for-pay” guys clearly have issues about their sexuality, and those who buy into it have even bigger issues. Who in their right mind would even believe for a minute that these men are really straight?

I hate to point out the obvious, but guys, doing straight stuff wouldn’t “cure” you from your homosexuality, no matter what. It would only show just how much internalised homophobia and self-hatred you are harbouring. You’re gay and you always will be, and there’s absolutely nothing you can do to change it. The gay community is always quick to criticise the idea of reparative therapy perpetrated by straight people in order to “cure” us, but it appears that a lot of us are in fact already doing the same thing to ourselves too.

And those of you people who defend these “straight” men just because you get off on your “straight men” fantasies, it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee. These actors are just as gay as the rest of us, so don’t be so gullible!
