The symbol is still frequently used in Russia on clothing, ushankas (ушанка) /other hats, and displayed in people’s homes on various items. It really is not surprising to see it as a tattoo, even on someone so young. Lots of people are proud of what the USSR accomplished even if they do not agree with the USSR’s politics. For example, millions of soviet soldiers in World War II died wearing this symbol. The world would not be the same if they hadn’t.
