And, as for homophobia being more pervasive in the black community: let’s try another hypothesis. When Europe colonized almost the entire globe, they gave as part of the reason that they had to teach us proper gender roles and Christian sexual behaviors (that’s why they call it “missionary position”). The best way to get ahead (and avoid being lynched or raped) was to show a public face of having a “normal” gender and sexuality.

The reason that many blacks and Latinos in the US won’t have sex on camera cannot simply be blamed on homophobia in their communities, as if those communities exist in total isolation from the white majority. Rather than shame about homosexuality, what if it’s about trying to overcome the pervasive perception that nonwhite people are all sexual deviants? Not wanting to show your face on camera is not necessarily a result of other blacks’ homophobia.

I’m sort of shocked, porndog. I’m nearly always on the same page with you! But the explanation that you (and others on WayBig have previously) offered for the lack of black men and Latinos on major sites is not accurate. There are websites (such as Cocodorm) that focus exclusively on black and Latino models. There are also sites that focus on South American models. So we can’t say these models don’t exist. If Chaos, Fratmen, SC, or Corbin Fisher wanted more nonwhite models, they could have them. They wish to be predominantly (almost exclusively) white.

Now that you mention it – and after another reading – it does seem a lot more ignorant than I first thought. Though I would argue that “down-low” is reserved for men of culture. Here in Boston, that phrase is used in reference to anyone, regardless of race. But I get what you’re saying here, and I agree, it does sound ignorant and insensitive.

I agree, lovelivelife. ‘Down-low’ is a term reserved for black men who secretly have gay sex. The same can be said for all the str8 white performers on the site, yet the term has never been used for them. I didn’t particularly like it because it somehow makes him different than the str8 white guys who appear here.

I understand what you’re saying but CM has had plenty of white models with the same attitude… I mean isn’t that what all the studios try to sell us: macho straight guy having sex with men. But with all the white models who have similar attitudes I’ve never seen him write that they have the “stereotypical down-low attitude”. And lets not forget that people only use that horrible “down-low” term when referring to men of color. I’m not claiming racism, I’m claiming ignorance. Most of the owners of the major studios obviously lack experience with men of color and it’s obvious with the awkward interaction… when they rarely feature men of color.
