I don’t mind letting Bry get a bit extra revenue. He’s one of the few bona fides in the business, so I want him to keep on at it for as long as he can. I might be a cunty, cheap bastard, but I do want guys like Bry to stay in business. If only he would get over his inadequacies. But then, his is of a different generation and his point of view reflects that.

It is these discussions that are much more fun and interesting to me. For those of us not evenly remotely involved in this industry, there is much to learn about what makes it run, especially the guys who model. One might expect the vocabulary here to be limited to “fuck yeah” or “he’s hot!” for example. But no, it is more interesting than that.
It makes sense to me that there should be some broader discussion. Pretty well every male is interested in porn, so some of them probably have some interesting comments to make, and experiences to share. And the tea!
I only use the term, “model”, as well, and deliberately because the word “star” should be reserved for a body of respected work. How can you be a “star” after one scene?
I have been writing comments along the lines of “social media has killed the gay porn ‘star’” for awhile. Social media is problematic for the whole porn industry. Its recent explosive growth can be attributed to the fast, cheap, and wide distribution channel that is the Internet. And the Internet has social media to become huge. Like you say, the problem is that, on the one hand, social media enables porn models to engage and develop a fan-base, but on the other hand, it makes it possible for interested and diligent people to discover their real identities through the same channels. Thus it does not surprise me that escorts and the like who used to frequent MMA, or any other event they used to frequent for connections, trade, and the like because they can no longer rely on the cloak of anonymity. In other words, they must “own” what they do, or not do it. And their past “acquaintances” must be very aware of the guilty-by-association of even being seen with them, if they show up at all. Thank you for taking the time to share your observations at the MMA event.
It makes you wonder how Corbin Fisher Connor is going in his reported new role of high-priced hooker. He must certainly need to be even more discreet than required in the past. Or, maybe, no one gives a shit these days if you, as a “prominent” member of society, are seen squiring about a former porn model. Somehow, I think society has yet to advance that far. Especially, a society that has taken a retrograde step in selecting a “leader” who is about to make America Great again. I doubt the “greatness” will include social inclusion for all groups in society.
Sometimes one can become a bit nostalgic for the olde days when furtive glances in crowded places could communicate volumes and you could make contact while people around you not in the “know” had no idea what you were up to. It might have been harder in some ways, but so much easier in other ways to make contact with “real” people. And most all of that has to do with social media.
An upside of the new “inclusion” of gay stuff into broader society is that the wants of the customer (us) have to be taken into account in producing stuff. It isn’t so bad being a poof these days in a lot of places. You don’t have to want to be straight and hate yourself for not being so. We can be more vocal about what we want to buy and the purveyors are having to listen. Otherwise, they won’t get their margins. There will always be a group of homos who still buy into the “I wish I could get off with a str8 guy” fantasy, but the rest of us who are not so needy are having a larger voice. We don’t have to just take what is given.
Porn is an evolving business heavily reliant on technology. If it wasn’t for porn, the Internet would not be nearly so well developed. Things like payment systems and the like over the Internet would probably still be pretty rudimentary. The key to a lot of developments was security: how to make it easy but very secure to pay for porn.
I think @Maximus gave a pretty good description of the current business model for porn. The content is simply a way of driving new eyes to hub sites where the content is free, but the eyes must see ads. That, after all, is the entire business model of Alphabet, Facebook, and Twitter, for eg. All of their technology is geared toward making money from advertising. They don’t give a shit about content or what viewers think about the content.
Given that the content doesn’t really matter these day, then they are not so interested in paying big $ for the best content. Thus, the model pay shrinks. The producers will still make their margin, but it is the models who bear (while baring) the ultimate cost. So, you really have to want to be a porn model these days as supposed to wanting to make big $$ from it.
Unfortunately for porn, the same ease with which they can distribute their product is available to the pirates. You can guess how wildly profitable digital porn was before, if producers can still make money at the current cheaper, and reducing, prices.
Finally, I hope someone stirs up some good controversy over at the Gay Hoopla thread. Last week, there were over 300 comments. So far, that thread has only 18. Bring on some tea!

Huge slump. Maybe unrecoverable, its been over a year. I see absolutely no reason to subscribe again. Wow – so spot on. I was thinking about our convo from the other day regarding clubs etc.. this is a tragedy getting ready to unfold. I know on the surface it makes sense but when I was a shiny new gay boy, (Not that long ago I might add) the club was like nirvana. I walked into that place and I was wall to wall with men like me! You can’t replace that with an app. It makes me sad that the kids coming up won’t experience that! I don’t care if 70% were filler – they were there. I could see, feel and touch them. I had a connection to something so much bigger than myself. How will they ever know what that is like?

I think progress has exceeded our ability to adapt. :(

You know – I thought for a minute it would be epic to have our bunch preside over the making of porn, but then I realized it would really just erode to everybody sampling the talent – dicks and asses everywhere, ending with an illegible script an a bunch of spent motherfuckers laying in a pool of semen. Here’s a take in gay porn after my weekend in Vegas.

Social media has killed the “gay porn star”, thus I call everyone a porn model. Gone are the days of four figure scene rates and top tier clientele. And I believe I can connect this all to the advent of social media.

In Vegas, I connected with old aqaintences from the MMA world, many of whom I interned 5-6 ish years ago. I looked at ringside escorts that frequent such events and was stunned to find no one from hustlaball there. Years ago, you would’ve found Erick Rhodes and others there, working their game on celebrities and fighters. In 2017, no one was there. And why wouldn’t escorts/ porn models from HB and other porn conventions be a such a huge event? Well, anonymity of course. Before fb, twitter and IG, models barely had any presence. A person could get famous in porn, escort big names and never have to worry about being exposed. Now, with twitter being a thing and models getting into twitter wars doxing one another, there is no desire for celebrity to risk their secrets with people who have tantrums and beefs online. Models reveal each other’s names and clients at the drop of hat nowadays. What I did observe, where many IG female models and professional male bodybuilders that have never done any porn, filling that void. They are professional and seem to be the go to escorts for straight, gay and closeted big names. I recognized a few bodybuilders sitting with closeted fighters and instantly knew what was up. And who could blame them? Look at any porn models IG and you’ll see them leave such a messy trail d list clients that they follow. Imagine being and A lister and having to worry about Sanitation, who had no qualms releasing that video of a soap star, who we know, really was that guy.

Porn likes to present itself as a living and evolving bussiness when in reality, it seems like it’s slowing dying and feeling the crippling effects of pirating and apps that let people sext in real time. Porn has no choice but to rely on heteronormative storylines and panders to those with straight fetishes. And it does indeed work as we see many people ( including here) actively working as apologists for G4P models that have done nothing but rob fans and be homophobic.

Can I split the difference and go for David Arquette?
