*I* WILL FUCKING DIE, PAINFULLY, if I lose access to health care. I have privilege in many ways, but I’m not just saying “oh, well, it doesn’t directly me so whatever” about health care or any of these other things that don’t affect me. I get that you don’t agree with my assessment and that’s fine, but how hard is it to wrap your head around the idea that I’m looking at more than just this one election, and deciding that the best thing to do with my vote – for everybody – is not to back the lesser of two evils?

And why is it that when the worst candidate wins, you feel entitled to tell me that it’s my fault because I voted for a candidate who lost, when you also voted for a candidate who lost? Because all those families were counting on me to save them from Trump? They were counting on you too, and guess what? You didn’t vote for the guy I voted for either! They were counting on you to elect someone other than Trump, you insisted on writing off third party candidates as hopeless and sticking with the same voting patterns that opened the door for Trump to begin with, and because of that the person I voted for lost to Trump! Or is that different because yours was the more popular way to lose?

I literally just explained why I’d vote for an idiot over Clinton. Clinton is part of an ongoing cycle of increasing corruption (remember when we all used to talk about reforming campaign finance?), politics over principals, and above all else a voting public which is bitterly divided and to busy fighting the other “side” to hold their elected representatives accountable for anything. I
don’t particularly agree with the term “protest vote”, given that I honestly believe that we’d probably be better off in the long run with one of the idiots than either Clinton or Trump, but if you must call it that on the grounds that, fine.

What I take issue with is that you’re insisting that it’s a vote that comes from a place of privliege. I am (obviously) care about gay rights, I care about whether my boyfriend feels comfortable and respected in this country, I care about the rights of women and trans people and muslims. And believe me, I really don’t relish the idea of being stripped of rights and dignity for being gay, or losing my health coverage and being left to fall into a major depressive episode, bloating up due to lack of thyroid medication, and ultimately dying of a massive kidney infection while I watch the gun toting bible thumpers install a Christian theocracy and deport everyone with brown skin. I’m not denying that I have many types privilege, but I vote the way I do because I do not believe that the Democrats can save me or anyone else from the Trumps of the world. They’re part of the system that spawned him in the first place. You don’t have to agree with that assessment, but please don’t tell me that I voted the way I did because I have the benefit of not caring. If I didn’t care I wouldn’t have voted at all (and it would have had the exact same impact on the number of votes Clinton and Trump recieved).

He is even making headlines here in Québec and all over the world for that matter.
