I had not been to one in over 10 years, and then suddenly I started traveling a lot more for work. I went to baths in Seattle and Montreal a year ago, and it was just okay. I’ve never found that scene to be spectacular — the sex club scene in New York once put the baths to shame. But I made it a routine thing for a while in my 20s, and it was not a bad way to pass a Saturday, especially because in Rochester, it was bizarrely situated between a police station and a dance club, with a low-key gay bar a few feet away. It was like a one-block version of Ptown. I loved the dance club, and felt like the bath house was a fun add-on.
