I hear ya – like war, the reality is so much more horrific, and the movies and television which reflect it reasonably accurately are doubly difficult to watch for both the depiction and the actual memories brought to the fore again.

I also, just for the record, did not mean to be in any way casual in my comment about “when HIV was a death sentence”. In fact, while it’s not, it’s still a terrible blight for the debilitation and limitation it puts on people who must chemically ravage their bodies to keep HIV at bay. I totally get that – we support a hospice and visit residents and non-resident beneficiaries often, and it’s nothing to be taken lightly. We’ve seen too many men in recent years still succumbing to it ourselves.

This was a tough movie to watch for me anyway. The scene with Ruffalo and Bomer was hot – but otherwise, tough watching a story about a culture which wouldn’t listen to or respond to what was all around it and killing it back when HIV was a death sentence.

There is a rumor this summer in Southampton that Ben and Anderson got married. If so, all the best to both of them.
