The Falcon/Hot House types can usually do a good makeover (something the Bryan Ockerts of the world grossly underestimate the value of). That’s why Tegan leaves CM looking better than he came (as it were). But there are many other things at which they are hopeless in terms of creating a normal-hot look. Long story short, they don’t see the difference between a hot policeman and a hot Chippendale dancer dressed to look like a policeman. The more they strive for the former, the more obvious it is that they only have the latter.
