I think they mean culturally conservative rather than politically conservative. A lot of Blake people are culturally/socially conservative but you’ll never see them vote for a Republican.

THIS I know first hand to be true. A gay Asian guy I interned with was ALWAYS beleaguered with calls and visits from his rents who had no clue he was gay.
