You had me at chiaroscuro. My favorite chiaroscuro scene was in my favorite overall “film as film,” Sailor in the Wild. (The Bigger the Better got me off the most, but it doesn’t work as well as a film.) Brian Thompson goes on a long, long journey of self discovery in that movie, from closet case in denial to gay/bi/pansexual(?) horn dog. Late in the movie, he and his friends are asleep by a campfire when he and the guy he’s sharing a sleeping bag with decide to go to town on each other. Neither is out to the rest of the group, but they refuse to let that inhibit them as they both throw off the sleeping bag, strip fully naked and fuck in the soft glow of the campfire within feet of their friends. When they’re done, they even curl up naked in each other’s arms rather than cover their tracks.

The next morning, one of their friends mockingly confronts them with the realization that he was awake and caught them, and Brian, beyond the reach of male panic, offers to show his straight friends what they’re missing. “I don’t mind having my dick sucked” turns into a scene where the straight uptight friends end up on their backs, legs in the air, getting dicked down on the beach like they’ve done it all their lives. Unlike the majority of straight seduction scenes, this one turns the gay men into the liberated heroes rather than portraying them as knob-slobbering sycophants. Don’t get me wrong — I AM a knob slobbering sycophant. But that’s not my only or even my favorite way to imagine my own sexual awakening.

LOL — you’re more patient than I am. One in ten sounds about right and is intolerable for me. I finally had the chance to watch the premiere. I’m drained. Not in a good way. Ryan has this thing where he takes a good show, creates amazing characters, then loses interest because he’s already onto the next project and the characters become caricatures. Glee. Popular. Nip/Tuck. It always happens and I hate to say I’m seeing the signs already with Pose. That first season had so much hope despite everything these characters were going through. This was just dark. Which makes sense, given the time period and the political and social aspects. But it just felt like there was no character growth. If we didn’t know this was a time jump you would’ve thought the finale took place in the same year. Elektra has regressed. Blanca is still friends with Candy and Lulu even after all the trifling things they’ve done and with them still being hating ass bitches. Angel is still hooking and making bad choices. Papi couldn’t tell Blanca he was selling drugs, but now he’s all gangsta. Damon is apparently still stupid enough to have unprotected sex, even with all the people he sees dying. Blanca is still not thinking her actions through completely. Ricky is going to be messy again. Cubby and Lamar are still sideline characters (although Lamar did get some shine, which is cool since the actor has international vogue cred I believe). And Keenan is dead in a pauper’s grave. It was all just too much. On top of the ballroom scenes being pretty lackluster. We know how the “Vogue” story ends, so it’s almost like they were prepping us for that with the ho hum ballroom scenes and Pray’s outburst.

Besides the character stuffs, some of the storylines I’m kind of iffy about. Elektra joining Candy and Lulu and doing the dominatrix thing I’m not sure about. Angel and Papi (which I suspected before the premiere given the promos, and which I assume is a nod to Angel’s rumored relationship with Janet Mock) makes me feel some type of way. The Damon and Ricky relationship drama seems unnecessary. Despite all of this, I’m of course looking forward to Miss Patti and Sandra returning for a bigger role is great. The rest leaves me all uneasy. Certainly not how I expected to be feeling going into this season I had waited so long for.

I’m in total agreement. When I say it’s creepy, I just mean that it’s rather earnest in it’s sex slave auction scenario, in a way that kind of delays or distracts from the sex. The sex can still be hot, but it’s just annoying to get there. I like FratX, despite the crappy craft, because occasionally there are glimmers of classic frat house scenarios that ring true, or at least ring sexy. Only one in 10, maybe, but I don’t mind those odds for those good scenes (more domination, less trash and smoking).

Regarding creepy, you’ll never hear me criticize individuals for their fantasies. I get why people criticize the companies for seeming to promote harm, but in general, I think the world is better off when people are allowed to explore the taboo things that people judge one another for in society, as long as there’s a careful distinction between fantasy and reality. But I acknowledge that there are real risks involved in even fantasy content.

MBZ is definitely the strongest, agreed. FDK is inconsistent, but better than BRC, mostly because of the number of pointless POV clips they do. Why bother having fairly hot older brothers if we never see them or their bodies??? Which means they don’t know what they are doing. They now have a site BoyForSale or something, which is pretty creepy, although the sex can be good. And I like size difference, so I agree if they do real sex, FSB could be good.
