It’s complicated. I am not Abe Simpson-old, despite my gif, and started watching porn in the mid-90s. But I quickly migrated to 80s porn for two reasons: 1. Before the Internet was graphics-heavy, the only way to see if a porn movie was good was to buy or rent it in person, and that usually meant that you were stuck with whatever you got. I hated condoms from day one, and Falcon and Catalina had a large precondom archive.

The point: Some of what came out in the 80s from Falcon was actually 70s porn. And I haven’t watched enough 70s porn to know the trends, but it strikes me as extremely erratic and unpredictable. I would say that the difference between the 70s and 80s is like the difference between a bar with live music and listening to the radio. The “conglomerate” trend really takes hold in the 80s, for better and for worse. But you can find a few “love story” scenarios sprinkled throughout, more so at Catalina than at Falcon. One thing I can generalize confidently is that most of the time at Falcon, the fantasy was the “surprise” encounter. The “wow my teammate/roommate/urinalmate/uncle has an erection, and he’s going to let me touch it” fantasy. And they almost never saw the potential for men who were not already dating to kiss. High Tide is one of only two box covers in the the first 120 Falcon releases to even imply that the men were going to kiss. The other is called Wild Country. But at least in my mind, kissing was not that rare at Catalina, even between characters who just met for the first time during the scene.
