Did you see the Kace Axel hat trick with Ryan Pitt ? Ryan was pure sexy when he filmed a scene, great energy and heat. I look around at the talent now and guys like Ben, Ryan, and Kace just out perform what is out there right now. They need to be back in the business. Any chance these studios go after former talent at Sean Cody like Shaw, Brandon, Broderick, and Curtis to bring back the excitement that new scenes used to bring with sexy talent ?

I’m honestly not sure there is a greater “gone too soon” example in recent porn history (definitely not counting people who died — I just mean people who didn’t do enough scenes relative to the sensation they caused) than Benjamin Dover. (OMG, I just checked IAFD and he has 51 scene credits. For my taste, he deserved twice as many.) What a lion he was in the sack.

I suppose it depends on whether you’re talking about amateur performers or amateur productions. CF and SC quickly adopted fairly professional production methods, BSB and CM less so. I use the term primarily to describe the performers within the context of the industry. I would distinguish beteeen that and truly home-made porn, which also qualifies as amateur.
Dawson became a veteran and was every inch the pro, but to the extent these guys were not seeking careers in “scripted” pornography, and the sites were “amateur”, he was originally a total G4P amateur. And going from CF to CM doesn’t make you less amateur, since “Boy Next Door” was the stock in trade of those sites. Now, a Paul Canon or Topher DiMaggio, to name a few of the more popular (/s) models I can think of, completely crossed over into mainstream porn. And some sites that went with an amateur aesthetic (CB, NextDoor, CD 24/7) were casting professional models from the get go.
BSB was strictly amateur, but some of those trade boys (Jimmy Johnson) eventually really got around.

After looking at the profiles of these guys and at some of the archives, I totally get what you’re saying now. I always had a slight problem with the term “amateur.” Dawson only worked for CF, but was he still an amateur after double-digit scenes? Or even after half a dozen? Was Vander not an amateur because he did a scene with CF before site jumping to Chaosmen? When those sites were at their best, I saw very little difference between Ben Dover debuting at BSB and Ben Bateman debuting at Lucas Entertainment. I struggle to call one an amateur and the other a pro.

But looking back, I see where people whom I remember as porn stars were really just very confident, well-groomed newbies. Now when you see a “new” performer, even if they look less polished (and more amateur), they tend to be guys who have already done multiple scenes somewhere else. Since those other brands are pretty mediocre, I was not even registering the recycling because I didn’t even notice them until they landed here. So personally, I would just use the terms unoriginal or recycled, but however you label it, you’re right.

Nah, they were still using amateurs even after they went bareback. Maybe you thought they were pros because some of the guys later branched out to other studios, but they started out as amateurs. They only started using pros since the past two to three years or so. The guys they have now have zero personality and zero chemistry.

When did they have amateurs? I got into the site when they went bareback about ten years ago. I thought they were very good back then, but they were pros by then as far as I could tell.

I am surprised they still survive, they have totally lost their cache of using believably straight guys (even if they weren’t). Their performers now are gayer than geese, which calls for a rebranding of the site. Right now it’s false advertising.
