Cody Cummings was clearly G4P. People hoped for more from him and he and the studio teased things out. However, No one was charged $50 for a video of him showering for 10 seconds and just showed his ass. It was always hardcore. Solos, Getting serviced, Str8 sex mostly. But it was hardcore. There wasn’t a video of him saying he and his buddy were going to test their limits and just grabbed each others ass and spreed each others cheeks, There was some type of sexual interaction and people paid $20 for a month of updates and a library of videos along with access to other sites. It isn’t eve close to being the same.

But, yes. People haven’t changed. But how media and money are exchanged have changed a lot.

I think there are models like Joe Martinez who has enjoyed a huge following on IG and then opened an OF. He will try and charge $80-100 for a 45 second clip of him getting head. I don’t see that happening 10 years ago. It may not be generational, but it’s a sign of where we are in society with social media. The mindset is I can be attractive and open up a OF, JFF etc account and give a half ass description about what i’m sending out and charge a crazy amount and people who want to see more buy it. Then are disappointed by what they got. Then they have their defenders of the scammers and hope they will progress to doing more. CF, Sc and RB were training guys who wanted to get into porn and try it with another guy and they were made to feel comfortable and relaxed and made good porn.

People have to really investigate these pages before joining.

I know almost nothing about how the OF-sites work and the very few times I tried to investigate one of them … there seemed to be nothing to investigate.
You have to subscribe to get in and I have the impression it is going to be a total surprise what you are going to see (or not).

Yikes, all of this sounds terrible. But you don’t think it’s a generational thing, do you? I think if OF existed earlier, older models would’ve used it, too.

I’m with you on this one. Of course, it’s more difficult to get models now compared to 10-15 years ago. And I’m not expecting them to go back to their golden era with countless actual new guys at their disposal. But it’s still very tragic to see them take a shortcut like this especially when you see other studios are still able to recruit actual new guys that are of good quality.

Like you, I criticize them a lot but at the end of the day, I also want them to do well. They are the last surviving studio from the golden age of amateur studio porn and I only wish nothing but the best for them and their future.

I’ve only skimmed through it but neither guys impressed me. Looks like this was filmed last year judging by Dylan’s performance. I wish they gave us Marco/Dylan gay scene instead but I feel they’re saving that great pairing for a coed scene like usual.

I visit forums that have threads regarding OF sites and give reviews. It’s been worth it and sometimes I seea lot of content out there and when I join i expect some videos to be on sale for a resoanable price and get nothing but second long clips on the page and nothing being posted. Then there are thos ethat need to take time off because of mental health and won’t post anything for two months! I will share my experiences and hopefully save someone some money. But, these guys think they don’t have to do much to get money and people with excess money help them believe that, so the rest of us have to deal with the nonsense.

I don’t agree with Mark…the way he’s thinking about the pool of models. I think the OF creators are more into doing the very least and trying to get way more out of it, while not really putting forth too much effort. There are plenty of good looking models out there and they want to charge $20 subscription fee and then charge for every pic or snippet of a video. Some people want to charge $25 for 3 pictures or $25 for a 3 minute video where you cannot even see their faces. A prime example is a model who did a crowd goal of $200 for him and his buddie fooling around. The memebers met the goal and then the video was sent out and members were charged anpther $15 to get the video, which included some ass slapping and ass them spreading each others sheeks open. That;s it, the highlight was one of the guys couldn’t be bothered to clean his ass properly.

So, the studios are offereing us stale leftovers from other dilapidated studios past their sell by date and the OF creators are scamming their members and OF doesn’t do anything about them. Some of these creators Have sales every month, people join then get sent an automated message welcoming them and then nothing. No update, no messages with videos or messages, they require you to tip them to answer a PM, even if it’s to ask a question about buying a video. People have to really investigate these pages before joining. Seems that we, the consumer do more work then anyone else involved with porn.

Also, Joey from SC is back and just started an OF. He is chargeing $16.99 and just updated a solo video charging $25. We’ll see how well that works out. I don’t understand this way of thinking and who has the money to just spend like that. SC doesn’t even charge That much a month and they have archives with years and years of Joey’s movies. They also have hundreds of guys and their videos they cann watch.

I don’t know if CF has enough excuses for not recruiting enough newbies that fit in with the concepts of the studio.
Sometimes I wonder if new models that want to have a shorter or longer career in this industry, can be easily convinced what the advantages could be to stay with just one studio. It’s my understanding that this is what CF wants from their models.
I’m afraid there are just too many temptations for new guys to try it in another way. The promise of quick and easy money is lurking everywhere. And if vanity is a big motivator, then the idea that the world is at their feet will easily take hold. Many youngsters do not understand that it takes blood, sweat and tears to be self-employed AND successful. Money doesn’t just come to you automatically when you are good-looking and you show your naked body.
In this business they very often really are on their own, with little or no support. Understanding often only comes when it is too late. Abuse and exploitation can strike before they manage to look it up in a dictionary.
It is very wise to seek sufficient support when applying for a job like this. A studio might be the right choice to get started and develop your skills in a supportive and safe environment. A bit away from social media with so called customers that know no limits in demanding more and more and fast. Very few are smart enough to cope with this jungle in a right way.

Even though I think I’m old fashioned regarding these opinions, I think I’m easily proven right when looking around in the world of gay-porn, the way it is today … I see very little stuff that really makes me happy. I see very many guys that do not take care of themselves in a sensible way. Too many guys who tend to be too extreme in body-culture and sexual acts, desperately trying to outdo each other.

But you know … it is what it is … if CF can’t survive as it was, then the world of porn will again be a lot more sparse. And even though I often criticize them, I do hope there will be better times again for CF.

Like I said recently, the struggle is real at CF. Literally. The last time they went on a poaching spree like this was when they lost most of their superstars and barely any models were left. Yeah, the pool has dried up but that’s not enough excuse considering some studios are still able to bring back quality new guys. Active Duty alone has an upcoming scene with a new guy who looks more like a CF model than any returnee CF had this year. You see… You were right when you said CF is getting desperate. The fewer scenes and their overreliance on old updates is just a band-aid solution to the real problem that started way before the pandemic. If this poaching and getting low-quality models continue, CF will no longer be CF just like SC is no longer SC. Right now, they’re still benefitting from last year but if this is what’s currently happening, then the future is very grim.

He was never a good fit for the downgraded Sean Cody so what makes them think he’s a good fit for CF? They’re losing the very essence of what CF is about with these recent recruits, it’s scary. The last one at least could pass as a CF model looks-wise. But this guy… Gurl… Let me not.

That was the original topic before you veered off the road and started free associating (weed, competition with China, boomers).

But let’s be logical. Fewer originals (Quietist’s topic) means that more of the models will have worked elsewhere. What has changed? Plenty of studios still out there + onlyf– and similar sites. That would actually mean the models who are working work for *more* sites than models did in previous generations. More work = not lazy.

What it actually says is that models want control over their own hours, conditions, locations, etc. And they’ll only work with the studios when it’s to their benefit. So it’s not about laziness, as Janet Jackson put it, it’s about Control.

And a final observation: Literally no one before you has ever suggested that the young’uns should show that they are hardworking adults by becoming porn stars. With the exception of Michael Lucas, it’s a short-lived career (at least in front of the camera). And many die far too young (Randy from SC is just the most recent example).

So, I find myself wondering: are you on the right website? Because you seem to think you’re commenting on an article in The Economist and not a gay porn blog.
