Such a strange film. “Why do you go on these trips with me, Ed?” It’s like a Brokeback Mountain prequel. Jack asks Ennis, “Why do you go on these trips with me, Ennis?” And then they go to sleep and in the middle of the night, Jack finds himself getting spit fucked. Jon was not an ugly man in those days — at times in Midnight Cowboy, I was like, “He’s right, he could make a killing on 42nd Street.” I could totally see him getting reamed by Louis in the Georgia woods while the others were sleeping. Maybe throw in Ned Beatty waking up and catching them (like that campfire scene that I love so much in Sailor in the Wild), and giving a P.S. Hoffman-in-Boogie Nights–style reaction of uncontrollable jealousy and hunger.

Yes, yes, yes! I love any of the scenes where Colby has encounters around the property with minor storylines attached. By far my favorite is when Masyn “jogged by” and got corralled into taking multiple loads including one in the garage. Even when the stories are cheesy, they never sink to MEN level in that regard, and more importantly, the scenes involve a lot more enthusiasm than the ones they do just lying around on the floor or the bed “onlyfans”-style. They can’t quite decide how much effort to put into production, so they seem to go back and forth. When the scene has a story, the fucking has a structure that the aimless threeways and fourways lack.
