Yeah, but there’s a difference between the seas of “okay, he’s hot” guys, the “wow, he’s really hot” guys, and the “how is it possible for him to be that hot???” guys. For my taste, when the site launched, it had approximately two guys in that third category. One was Lukas and one was this other really muscular guy whose name I forgot. (Came to me while writing this — Martin Valko.) Sometimes performance and situations elevated guys from the second category or even the first to the third. (Trevor Yates comes to mind.) But people like Jon Kael, Bob Marghiela, Zac DeHaan, Viggo, Adam … oh lord, okay, you’re right. They just have too many good ones.

I found a gif of Zac DeHaan with a caption that said, “Are you close?” I just burst out laughing when I saw it. I would be like, “I’m conscious and you’re in the room. The only time I’m not going to be close is the few minutes after I’ve already shot my load.”

I have given this a lot of thought, and I have never reached any satisfying conclusions. I don’t understand the generations of porn consumers below me, and to some extent I don’t even understand my peers. The same thing happened in porn that happened in music, which is that my taste developed almost as if I were 20 years older than I am. To me, the true golden age of porn was 1983-86. Leo and Lance, Sailor in the Wild, The Bigger the Better, the late film era and to a lesser extent the early VHS era. And as a result, something I value tremendously is the “premise.” Pizza guy David Ashfield grooming Grant Fagan until Grant is legs up on a park bench taking one of the biggest cocks he’ll ever see. Or teacher Peter North keeping Rick Donovan after school to teach him a lesson, only to surrender to Rick’s overwhelming greater dominance. It’s the paradox of the attainable fantasy: an ordinary situation where unexpectedly the opportunity for mind blowing sex suddenly surfaces. That is the bedrock of porn for me, but that has nothing to do with how porn is packaged and marketed today. (The only exception is the stepdad fantasy, which the industry has run into the ground.)

Bel Ami is still crafting those perfect moments but too many guys are just as willing to watch someone fuck in a grainy twitter clip or something. So all of that is to say that the Bel Ami business model, though durable, is also a little dated, I suspect.

As to why Corbin Fisher still gets more comments, I do think there is an American bias. I said that years ago and someone corrected me on the question of whether the model I was talking about spoke English. I still think that matters even though no one is really talking in CF updates. If Dane called me right now, I would not recognize his voice on the phone. (That certainly is different from classic Sean Cody. Who doesn’t know what Daniel sounds like?) I’ve sat here almost an hour writing out all these theories and I’m not fully convinced by any of them, so I’m going to shut up now.

I completely agree. I think Adam Archuleta and Jack Harrer are probably the last BelAmi superstar models and it’s a shame because they have a lot of great and good looking performers. Whatever the reason, it is undeniable that BelAmi is one of the, if not THE, most consistent studio in the past 20 something years.

I meant to say that the reason I’m musing about Lukas and others is because once in a while, I see someone who I think is ridiculously good looking that people only barely talk about, and Viggo is one of those. I don’t know how thorough the tagging system is here, but the last tagged update from him was a year ago. The ones before that are closer together, but none of them have double digit comments. The typical Viggo update gets three comments on this board.

It’s entirely possible that I am not paying attention and am clueless. But I just don’t get the impression that Bel Ami is doing all it can to make their top performers the kinds of stars that Lukas and a few others became. It’s almost like they want us to like the Bel Ami models, but not so much that they become dependent on any of them. I guess part of it is that I’m old fashioned and remember feature length movies like Lukas’ Story, where the same star would be featured in a cluster of scenes, not just one scene here and another one a month later.
