I do wish more people would consider what stage names work on social media or fan sites won’t necessarily translate well to studio scenes and having a more visible porn career, so thought it through from the outset. I think previously people would have just thought of an entirely new name (e.g. MrDeepVoice becoming Thomas Johnson) or some variation of their handle, but I’ve noticed increasingly some actors seem to keep their social name (e.g. SexyStache debuting on Lucas last week, JustinTheJock or Only Matt here).

I guess this makes it easier to keep track of them and perhaps ensure their fans follow them between fansites and studio scenes, but it’s also resulted in a lot of weird and confusing stage names, things that might work better as social media handles or in URLs but not really within the format of studio porn. It’s as if the studios used to force the actors to adopt a new, more traditional stage name when they sign up, but is no longer insisting on this.

Just wondering what others think of this trend? If I were to start a fansite or social media as an amateur pornstar, I’d be thinking ahead of a good name and branding that could be kept seamlessly if you then wanted to move to studio work.
