As for the Seahawks I’m relatively new to Seattle and traditionally had been a SF 49ers fan since I lived in SF for about 15 years. But when I moved here in 2011 there was an intensity of football mania (without going overboard as it did in Texas where I grew up) that SF didn’t have especially considering that the Seahawks were really considered a sort of second or even third tier team having only gone to the SB once and lost. So the fans certainly weren’t just fairweather fans. However, something happened when Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson came together. It was like a lightning in a bottle sort of thing. It was palpable. It all culminated, of course, in the resounding victory over Denver and Peyton Manning (certainly on the list of GOATs). This town exploded. It was a lot of fun.
As for Russell Wilson his story is unique and appealing as well. He is one of the shortest if not the shortest QBs ever to play in the NFL and was deemed by the “experts” to be an adequate QB but would never be top tier. Well, he has certainly proved them wrong!
