That certainly wasn’t the vid I expected it to be. Since Deacon and Asher are a couple and have been together for a few years, I anticipated this being a sweaty, piggy cum-filled fuckfest. But it wasn’t really any of those things. It felt more like they were making a porn scene than having sex. These two should know each other’s bodies intimately. They know where those sweet spots are without even thinking about it. That’s what was missing. I believe it’s relatively new and not something that’s been formally presented in academia but something that has been created in response to colorism in many POC activist communities. This type of reaction isn’t really new, but usually instances of an attractive person of color dating an “unattractive” White person brings the most heat. Those type of relationships get called out because the other people within that shared community see the poc as settling and selling out, and taking whatever White scraps s/he can get. But in this case the poc is the arguably less attractive of the two. So all the “How dare he step outside his lane” stuff is odd. If Asher is proud of his boyfriend, that doesn’t necessarily translate to him being proud of his White boyfriend. And it’s not like Deacon is ashamed of Asher by any means. If he felt that way there wouldn’t be pictures of their life together plastered all over the web, and he certainly wouldn’t be doing a porn scene with Asher on Sean Cody.

I disagree with that slightly, only in the sense that I believe Deacon would be judged if he were dating a model who looked just like him. Only it would be a different kind of judgment. He would be accused of being narcissistic and shallow. And there are those who would assume that Deacon probably doesn’t date men of color, or wouldn’t be likely too. Like how on The Bachelor or The Bachelorette when you see a person of color and you’re thinking “You’re wasting your time.” That’s the kind of stuff that would get said about Deacon. So Deacon having crossed the color line would be surprising enough. That he would go for someone like Asher seems unexplainable. And that’s why you get these rationalizations that this is a relationship born out of convenience and not genuine attraction. Because naturally if a hot White guy can have his pick of men, if he crosses that color line he’s going to pick the hottest non-White man he can find. That’s what people expect.

Judging from that kitchen shot I’m not getting the sense that Asher is rolling in dough. How many rich dentists are also shaking their ass at clubs? They’re both THOTting it up on social media. This doesn’t automatically have to be an Asher/Donald Burns situation. I’m not going to start singing Kanye’s “Gold Digger” simply because Deacon’s man may have money.
