Tube sites, which allow people to watch scenes without buying a subscription. Result is less money to pay the performers, making it less enticing. And another huge factor because of these sites, you can no longer do a few scenes and remain anonymous. The scenes can be seen anywhere, so the chances of friends famly employer finding out are much greater than they were when you had to have a subscription to see the scenes. IMO only of course.

I understand the argument. But those things were all true five years ago when the site was drastically better. Scroll through the 2013 updates of CM, SC, and CF, and then scroll through 2018, and you can’t help but say “holy shit!” in reaction.

Maybe the difference is that when one person is running the aite, they are fontent with higher standards and leas profit. They built it up, sell it, and then Mindgeek rides the fumes of the archive for the rest of time while replacing the prime burgers with Soylent Green.

With all due respect, I’ve read many of the comments stating the industry is in a huge decline and I don’t understand them. I first came into gay porn in 2005 and IMO, there’s never been a shortage of quality models, quality studios and quality scenes. Sure some sites go bust, sure there are disappointing scenes and unattractive models now, but that’s always been the case. Remember back in 2009 when the economy was in recession and there was talk about the porn industry needing a bailout? Instead it flourished and studios, Corbin Fisher in particular, were swimming in attractive models. And just in case you missed it, Corbin Fisher released a Harper scene today.

I’ve also read a lot of the other criticisms on here and I don’t get them. I just don’t get them. Constant talk about of the lighting, the camera work, the scenery, the contrast. Dafuq? When I watch porn, I’m watching the guys, I’m not watching the fucking furniture. Hell, ASG had the shittiest quality vids with two lecherous webmasters running it, and I still fapped to it constantly, back then and even today. The cameraman, editor, director, etc., help determine what kind of experience we might have.

Relatedly, I came of age at a time when there was no way to investigate the quality of a scene except, in most cases, to pay full price for the videocassette. As a result, the best way to ensure return on your investment was to buy from Falcon or Catalina, who established a standard of quality and then maintained it over time. I bring that same expectation to the porn I consume now. I prefer high production values because that is part of the fantasy that attracts me, especially at Sean Cody, that these men look like and are shot like supermodels.

Lastly, the question of whether the quality of the models has gone up or down year to year is impossible to prove because it’s a question of taste. But you are citing a scene released today that was shot five years ago (google “corbin fisher european stimulus” — the pages describing it are from 2013), so you seem to be making my point.

I won’t argue with any of that. But I will point out that even some amateur stuff can be done well. In fact, some of the scenes I fap to most are amateur. I think that some people are just too critical overall. It’s like they expect every scene to have interesting dialogue, an engaging storyline, overloaded with passion and models doing this, that and the other, and a bunch of other demands. You can’t please everyone, but I think overall the industry today is quite good.

I know you’re a hardcore bareback fan. I like it too, but I will say I never expected the industry to get to that point. Comparably, CM used to discover men with longevity and legendary impact: Vander, Eli, Solomon, Taylor, Nash, Jaxton, Kristopher, Delaney, Carter Jacobs, Trevor Laster, Aries, Wren, Braxton — all of whom had careers on multiple sites, drew FANATICAL comments, or lasted for several years. And they all debuted within roughly a 2-year time frame, 2010-12. CM continued to create full-fledged stars after that: Griffin, Tegan, and most recently Sawyer. But the 2017-18 list is dramatically shorter in that regard than any previous two-year span unless there are guys I have overlooked. Maybe they’ll bounce back. The site I have by far the least hope for is SC.

Helix has no problem keeping a steady stream of hot twinks. I think its casting. These companies just want to maximize their profits. They don’t want to pay more to get hotter men if they feel it won’t matter much. Their subscribers likely just complain but stay due to the occasional hot scene. If every scene featured hot men, would their subscriber count significantly increase? Maybe they’ve done the math and it won’t matter as much as it seems. Maybe hiring average joes for little money is more profitable for them.

I had a friend awhile back that I’d conciser pretty hot, he told me he once did a porn scene for $500 with a small company. They probably go with guys like that. Guys that will do it for little money to fill a spot.

See THAT is where I think the big lie is. These companies are flooding the tube sites with their older scenes, in effect re-marketing them. What remains to be sen is how much they are really making from that. I think it is far more then what anyone thinks. I don’t know. The visuals look so awkward. Between Marco’s brows and the height difference and Mick’s lankiness and the muted colors, it’s hard to see sex appeal in that trailer. Maybe the finished product will be different.

Aww look at you Bair, trying to keep my hope alive. I definitely agree and appreciate those two sites’ directors overall. That said, they make some wonky decisions sometimes. In Helix’s case, the lighting often obscures what should be clearly visible. In CB’s they sometimes do the same, use too many cuts instead of letting takes breathe, and often avoid penetration shots.
