It also depends if they are gay or not. The gay ones like the fancy stuff in life and sometimes don’t want to be seen without their Louis Vuitton luggage to give an example.

I’ve thought just a little about this situation. I come at this topic from a conventional upbringing followed by zero exposure to this industry; other than as a consumer; someone who watches documentaries about the topic where people who are involved in the industry are interviewed, as well as their family members; and the fabby T served up here in cyberspace. I am happy to defer to any points of view more informed than mine.

It seems to me that there are different considerations to make whether or not to be a porn model, depending on the type of porn, your stage of life, your morality, your respect for authority, your physical attributes, your intellectual capabilities, the influences and support from people around you, for a few. I’ll espouse just a few thoughts from my shaky soap-box as follows.

Firstly, your stage of life. When you are young without other relationships, you are free to explore whatever. Your decisions affect only you, both now and in the future. Before you engage in porn, you must consider at least the following. Porn is a type of prostitution and that is a profession that has always been on the outer of society. I don’t buy arguments that propose it is all changing because this is 2017 and look how far we’ve come. I’ve seen enough documentaries and read enough to know that this battle will go on for a long time, probably forever. And with the current plan to change the composition of SCOTUS to revisit Roe v Wade, etc. we’ve not come as far as some would like to think. And the Internet is pretty much forever, so you cannot hide your past. It affects you now and will in your future, in unpredictable ways. And you can’t make as much money as porn models, especially gay porn models, could even one year ago. And you will age, your body will change, and there will be oppressive competition, so your star will wane a lot faster than you want. And, the amount of time spent being a “porn star” is time sunk from trying something else to establish the prospect of a long-term income stream (which is the normal way of life).

Once you have a relationship your decisions will be affected by the relationship, if it is at all “normal”. Your decisions must be informed by the other(s) in your relationship. You can no longer think about how your decisions affect just you, but how they affect the other(s) in your relationship, assuming you wish the relationship to continue. (That can be questionable, I accept.)

And then, once you have children, the decisions you make must be informed by the legal obligations to provide for them, and the moral obligations to them and their future. It seems to me that your moral obligations are to provide an environment where your children can be equipped to make the best in life they can with the attributes they have. As a porn model, either with just a history of porn, or continuing in porn while raising children, that will come to bear whether you like it or not. It probably won’t be an immediate problem, but I would be interested to know what happens to the children of former porn models as they grow up in the “digital age” and the children’s friends discover the porn model’s past and/or present. Life is a bitch for young people finding their way in life. They don’t need to deal with their parent’s past as well as their own perceived inadequacies. Suicide is a major cause of death for those in the 15-24 year old age group. I can’t imagine having a parent engaged in porn will help a depressed adolescent.

If you have a past littered with convictions for transgressions like some of these porn models, eg. Derek Jones, you still have the obligations for your children if you bring them into the world. If porn has been a way of making an income to date, then fine, you are to be congratulated for providing for you and your partner from the limited opportunities available. It gets you off the public purse so the rest of us don’t have to pay for your existence. But once you have children, all the other considerations come into play. That is assuming that your porn star is still shining and you can still get work.

It just seems to me that for people with children or intending to have children, they need to think of the children’s future before their own (Is that too unMillennial?). This means doing something other than porn, particularly gay porn, the very worst kind of porn in some people’s minds. For example, a guy like Derek Jones is quite handsome with a great body. Why not try to do something like personal training (à la Sean Cody Abe, who had his own porn-past problems), or sales? There is plenty of money to be made in sales if you have physical attributes like Derek. If any potential customer finds out about your porn past, it might even help to close a sale as it will pander to the underlying lascivious nature of most people when titillated with a bit of gossip.

Of course, all of the above probably doesn’t apply if you live in a trailer park or are a drug addict because your set of rules won’t be the same as the broader segment of society. If your support system of family, etc. is willing to support you if you continue to fuck for a buck, some of the above may not apply. I’d be happy to know about the feelings of teen-age straight boys whose father has a history in gay porn, if anyone can share them here. I’ve seen one documentary where a mother is a British porn model, the father closes his ears while she brings in the bacon from getting banged by male strangers with big dongs, and the teenage daughter claims to be “fine” with it (even though she didn’t look too fine while talking about it). Just some thoughts for discussion. Now, some T, please.
