Actually I think it is the camera work that is better in the dark. Apparently someone literally does need both hands and a flashlight to find “it”.

I agree. But I do have slight issues on this scene with regard to the filming. I’m not good with cameras and angles like you guys, but even I can tell this wasn’t filmed by the same person who filmed Timothy/Beau, Max/Beau and Barron/Dane.

I honestly only skimmed the scene, Dane isn’t ugly but he isn’t really in my lane. I just skimmed it again, it looks like they were playing with multiple light sources, and some of it is more crappy filter work. There are small blurbs where they used the camera light and it gets more intense (more like the last few scenes) but for the most part they were cheating this time and the result was bland. The framing also seemed to suffer as a result.

It’s almost as if using the camera light forces them to capture better shots.

Yeah, there was a moment the light was too bright Elian was squinting. And yes, the framing was off. A lot of times I felt the camera was too close to the models. So if it was focusing on one model you couldn’t see the other. Totally different from the last three AH scenes. The After Hours scenes have always been well filmed and edited. But somehow, this and Elian/Jack’s had terrible jump cuts. The only reason I can think of is because both were flip-fucks. It loses some of its spontaneity when that happens. And it sucks because spontaneity is basically one of the main elements of After Hours. I still think the scene is hot, but I wish the editing wasn’t a mess.

This scene had some of the worst editing in recent memory. It looks more like an experiment than a scene in the finished product. Between the cuts and the lighting, it appears they threw every filter in the book at it trying to make it look less obvious and just made it worse.

I would tend to disagree with much of that.

There are a lot of gems pre-Dawson. Namely scenes with Dirk, Lucas, Cody, Cory and Logan come to mind and some others. Also Damon Phoenix. I’m not sure how many remember him, but he had one of the best asses in the business.

User ratings being “spot-on” is subjective at best. If someone is a fan of black models, their scenes tend to be rated really low, so the ratings will be misleading. It’s no secret I’m a fan of H. Henry, who also had low-rated scenes.

Solos, it really depends on one’s preferences, but there are a large handful I think are worth saving. Some of the more recent ones would include Merrick and Myles.
