I’m one of the few on this forum who occasionally liked some of FX’s output. They mixed up the lads and could be inventively deviant on occasion. But they have become so repetitive and unimaginative, with very few appealing performers and not even the slightest effort to create the headspace they pioneered (“All bets are off in this frat house!!”). I get that lots of people don’t like the homophobia or consent-challenged scenarios that were on offer, but at least there was a logic or code that operated with some consistency in this world. Sooner or later it was your turn to take one for the team, and there was no ambiguity about the raunchy desire that fueled these scenarios. Predatory frat boys and hazing are unacceptable IRL, but porn traffics in lots of taboo and subversive fantasies. By turning “bad” behavior into an erotic spectacle, you reclaim the power to redeploy what is oppressive in our society into something that serves your psyche and desires. So while I’ll happily defend what this studio set out to do, I can’t forgive how mediocre they’ve become.
