So much about this is right, and so much wrong. I’ll skip the criticism that everyone would guess that I would bring. But my less obvious criticism is that those poses with the splits would look a lot hotter to me if it was a two-person scene. To have someone down there blowing him just calls attention to the fact that there — and at every step thereafter —they are (A) trying too hard, (B) doing too many things that are obviously for the camera and not for their own or each other’s pleasure. I recently complained about a scene where the bottom was thinking only about himself and not about the camera. Now I’m saying the opposite, but it’s not a contradiction. The best porn involves performers who never forget what the camera is seeing, but also never LET ON that they are aware of the camera. It’s the illusion of being there only for each other while in fact being there primarily for us. A cirque du soleil performance is pointless if they can’t convince me that it’s heightening someone’s pleasure in the scene. Otherwise they might just as well be twirling ribbons.
